Aims and Scope

Aim and scope of the conference

Rapid and constant changes in today's education brought about new forms of knowledge and new kinds of learning called "21st century learning and teaching". In this rapidly changing environment, learners and teachers are faced with new challenges. Successful teaching and learning practices largely depend on how well learners and teachers exercise their agency to adapt to these new forms and cope with the new challenges. 21st century language teachers need to look through broader pedagogical lenses while integrating new literacies into their teaching - supporting social interaction, connectivity, collaboration and creativity through technology based dynamic and multimodal ways.

The theme of the International MELT 2019 conference, ‘Changing Identities, Agencies and Mindsets: 21st Century English Language Learning and Teaching’ aims to connect theory with practice by bringing together researchers, educators, and practitioners from all around the world with interests in EFL/ESL teacher education and teaching/learning of English.

It provides an opportunity for participants to share their theoretical knowledge, research findings, and innovative teaching practices to gain broader insight into the ways that can enhance language-teaching practice and empower teachers to become critical practitioners.

We look forward to seeing you in Istanbul on 11-12 October 2019!
